What Is UAE Corporate Tax?

The UAE receives a federal corporate tax on the profits of companies and some business-active individuals. This tax is applicable for the fiscal year starting on or after June 1, 2023. This tax was imposed under Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022. The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) manages everything—including registration, tax returns, and payments.

UAE Corporate Tax Rates in 2026

For businesses  the following tax  rates are applicable according to the standard corporate tax rules:

Taxable income Corporate tax rate
Up to AED 375,000 0%
Above AED 375,000 9% on the amount exceeding AED 375,000

For example, if your company has AED 500,000 in taxable income, the first AED 375,000 is taxed at 0%. The remaining AED 125,000 is taxed at 9%, giving a corporate tax amount of AED 11,250 before any other applicable adjustments or reliefs.

Remember that taxable income is not the same as total sales. It is generally calculated from accounting profit, with adjustments required by tax law.

Qualifying Free Zone Persons have different rules, which we explain below.

Who Must Register for UAE Corporate Tax in 2026?

Most companies established in the UAE must register for corporate tax, including businesses that do not expect to pay any tax.

The registration rules depend on the legal structure and the type of business.

Mainland Companies

Companies licensed by Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), including most mainland limited liability companies (LLCs), are required to register with the FTA.

Registration generally applies even when the business has not started earning revenue. Having a trade licence does not automatically mean the business has completed its corporate tax registration.

Free Zone Companies

Free zone businesses are also generally required to register, including companies established in IFZA, DMCC, Meydan Free Zone, SHAMS and RAKEZ.

Some companies may qualify for 0% corporate tax on Qualifying Income. However, they must meet specific conditions to be treated as Qualifying Free Zone Persons (QFZPs).

A free zone licence alone does not guarantee a 0% corporate tax rate.

Freelancers and Sole Establishments

Individuals carrying out business activities in the UAE have different registration rules.

A natural person generally needs to register if their total UAE business turnover exceeds AED 1 million in a calendar year.

Salary, personal investment income and qualifying personal real estate investment income are excluded from this business turnover calculation.

For sole establishments, it is normally the individual owner who is considered for corporate tax registration rather than a separate company.

Foreign Companies

Foreign companies may also have UAE corporate tax obligations if they have a permanent establishment, relevant UAE nexus or are effectively managed and controlled in the UAE.

Their registration requirements depend on their circumstances. A foreign business should confirm its tax position before assuming that UAE corporate tax does not apply.

What Is the Corporate Tax Registration Deadline in 2026?

There is no  corporate tax registration deadline for every business in the UAE. Your deadline depends on when your company was established and its legal status.

Newly Established Companies

A resident company established in the UAE on or after 1 March 2024 normally has three months from the date of establishment to submit its corporate tax registration application.

For example, a company incorporated on 10 August 2026 would generally need to apply by 10 November 2026.

It is better to begin the process soon after receiving your trade licence instead of leaving it until the deadline approaches.

Existing Companies

Companies established before 1 March 2024 were given registration deadlines based on their licence details under FTA Decision No. 3 of 2024.

Those original deadlines fell in 2024 and have already passed.

If your company was established before March 2024 and remains unregistered, review your position immediately. You may face a late-registration penalty, although relief may be available under the FTA’s waiver initiative.

Freelancers and Individuals

An individual whose UAE business turnover exceeds AED 1 million during 2026 generally has until 31 March 2027 to apply for corporate tax registration.

Different deadlines and different rules are applicable to non-resident individuals and businesses. These deadlines follow the FTA’s registration framework.

What Documents Are Required for Corporate Tax Registration?

The following documents are required:

  • Trade licenses (including branches)
  • Company setup documents (like your MOA or Incorporation Certificate)
  • Commercial registration certificate
  • Passports and Emirates IDs for major owners (25%+ stake) and authorized signers
  • Document proving you’re allowed to apply on the company’s behalf
  • You’ll also type in your company’s official name, address, contact info, and financial year dates. Some extra papers may be required if you business partners or tax exempt status. All files should be saved as PDFs under 15 MB before uploading.

How to Register for Corporate Tax in the UAE: Step by Step

There is an online portal Emara Tax Portal for tax registration. Visit of Govt. office is not necessary for submission of application.

Step 1: Create an EmaraTax Account

Go to the official Federal Tax Authority website and access EmaraTax.

If you have  already an EmaraTax account for VAT, you can use its existing profile where applicable. If you do not have an account, you may  create a new account and  activate it.

Step 2: Select Your Taxable Person Profile

Go to the Emara Tax portal dashboard and create the correct taxable person profile.

Make sure you choose the correct legal structure. Select the right category, an individual, or a company. Selection of the wrong category may create problems in future.

Step 3: Choose Corporate Tax Registration

Open the relevant taxable person profile.

Find the Corporate Tax section, select the registration option and begin the application.

Provide correct  information to the Portal about your business, licences, ownership and authorised signatory.

Step 4: Enter Your Business Information

Complete all required data according to the documents.

Be careful about  the entries of  trade licence number, incorporation date, business activities and financial year.

These details  will be helpful in establishing  your tax profile and identify your ongoing compliance responsibilities.

Step 5: Upload Documents and Submit

It is necessary to review your application data before submission.

It is necessary that business name, owner details and licence information should be according to the official documents.

Incomplete documents or wrong information may lead to further queries from the FTA.

Step 6: Receive Your Corporate Tax TRN

After submission, the FTA reviews your application. After submission of your application, the FTA works on your application, if it finds appropriate, a Corporate Tax Registration number is issued to your business.

The FTA currently estimates 20 business days to complete its review after receiving a complete application. The actual time may vary if clarification or additional documents are required.Your corporate tax TRN is separate from any VAT registration number.

How Much Does Corporate Tax Registration Cost in Dubai?

UAE corporate tax registration is free through the Federal Tax Authority’s EmaraTax portal.

No Govt fee is charged for standard FTA application. If you need professional help with registration, accounting, record keeping and preparing tax returns.

For example, a company with several shareholders, multiple licences or complicated business activities may need more detailed tax guidance.

The cost of professional services will depend on the work involved. It should be confirmed before appointing an advisor.

What Happens After Corporate Tax Registration?

Receiving your TRN is only the beginning. Most registered businesses must continue meeting their tax responsibilities throughout the year.

File Your Corporate Tax Return

Taxable businesses generally need to file a corporate tax return within nine months after the end of their relevant tax period.

For example, a company with a financial year ending on 31 December 2026 would generally need to file its return and pay any tax due by 30 September 2027.

Companies that make no profit may still need to file a return. Registration and filing are two separate requirements.

Check Small Business Relief

Small Business Relief may be available to eligible UAE resident businesses with revenue of AED 3 million or less in the relevant tax period and all previous tax periods.

It is not automatic. Eligible businesses need to elect the relief for the relevant tax period.

In August 2026, the Ministry of Finance confirmed that this relief had been extended to tax periods ending on or before 31 December 2029.

Qualifying Free Zone Persons and certain large multinational group members cannot claim this relief.Even if your company qualifies, it must still comply with applicable registration and filing requirements.

Understand Free Zone Tax Conditions

If a free zone company fulfils the required conditions , the company may avail 0% corporate tax rate on Qualifying Income. For this, the necessary conditions are ,adequate business substance in the UAE, preparing audited financial statements and following transfer pricing rules.

Certain free zone distributors also face additional audit-related requirements for tax periods beginning in 2026.

Businesses should assess these rules rather than assuming their free zone licence makes all profits tax-free.

Check VAT and Other Compliance Requirements

Corporate tax and VAT are separate taxes.

For most UAE-resident businesses, mandatory VAT registration applies when taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 over the previous 12 months, or are expected to exceed that amount within the next 30 days. Every business is bound to maintain accurate financial records, meet all requirements for beneficial ownership, anti-money laundering and licensing requirements.

One important distinction: general Economic Substance Regulation reporting was cancelled for financial years ending after 31 December 2022, although obligations relating to earlier periods may remain.

What Is the Penalty for Late Corporate Tax Registration?

There is a penalty of AED 10,000 for late corporate tax registration. FTA also has a waiver for eligible businesses under certain conditions.

Under this initiative, a taxable person can qualify for a waiver if they submit their first corporate tax return within seven months from the end of their first tax period. Different declaration requirements apply to certain exempt persons.

The initiative may also cover businesses that have already paid the penalty, subject to meeting its conditions.

Waiver Of Penalties

Common Corporate Tax Registration Mistakes to Avoid

  • Small mistakes can create additional work or lead to compliance problems.
  • Waiting until the first tax return is due: Registration has its own deadline. You should not wait until the end of your financial year to begin.
  • Assuming a free zone company is exempt: Free zone companies generally need to register even when they expect their qualifying income to be taxed at 0%.
  • Using the wrong business details: Your company name, licence number and ownership details should match the information held by the licensing authority.
  • Confusing profit with turnover: The AED 375,000 standard tax-rate threshold concerns taxable income, while the AED 3 million Small Business Relief threshold concerns revenue.

Ignoring changes after registration:

It is necessary to update the FTA records for any type of change like ownership, licence details or partnership.
